ULTRAVIOLET PICTURES OPTIONS AND ADAPTS STAR IN THE FOREST BY AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR LAURA RESAU
Ultraviolet Pictures has announced its latest feature film in development, Star in the Forest, based on the acclaimed middle-grade novel by award-winning author Laura Resau. The adaptation was written by Dana Friedman, who also serves as producer under her Ultraviolet Pictures banner.
Star in the Forest tells the tender story of a young girl grappling with the sudden deportation of her father. When she discovers an injured dog hiding beneath her family’s trailer, the two form a formidable bond that helps her navigate fear, longing, and faith while waiting for her father’s return. Inspired by true-to-life experiences of family separation and resilience, the film celebrates courage, compassion, and the unbreakable ties that connect us.
“I was deeply moved by Laura Resau’s storytelling — her ability to illuminate difficult realities through the eyes of a child while finding beauty and grace,” said Friedman. “At Ultraviolet Pictures, we are drawn to stories that inspire empathy and fortify hope. Star in the Forest beautifully embodies those values.”
Author Laura Resau is known for her lyrical and culturally rich novels for readers of all ages, including The Queen of Water, What the Moon Saw, and Red Glass, which have received numerous honors from the Americas Award, the International Reading Association, and others.
Building on Ultraviolet’s commitment to high-quality, live-action family entertainment rooted in timeless values, Star in the Forest continues the company’s mission to bring literary stories with heart and humanity to the screen.
